BBQ BASICS – DRY RUB
DRY RUB INGREDIENTS
(makes about 2 ½ cups)
1/2 cup paprika
1/2 cup kosher salt
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated garlic
6 tablespoons granulated onion*
Coating your meat with a dry rub is the essential first step to great BBQ!
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and rub them together with your hands. While it is a great starter rub, feel free to personalise it by adding your favourite herbs or dried smoked chillies. Just be sure you keep the sweet, savoury, and spicy flavours in balance. This rub can be stored in an airtight container for future use.
* can substitute with onion powder or flakes which has a stronger flavour than granules, so add small quantities to start with and go from there
